THE PERFECT PARADISE | OCHO RIOS

Views of Ocho Rios.

Ocho Rios. Ochis. Located on the north coast of Jamaica, Ocho Rios is the home to many waterfalls, rivers and beautiful beaches. Ocho Rios, the next stop on my Jamaican adventure.

If you read my previous post, I started of my trip in Jamaica solo and in Montego Bay. This time, I was accompanied by a friend that lives in Kingston. Since my first trip to Jamaica in 2017, Ocho Rios was on my list of places I needed to see. With this trip, I made it happen. It was only a day and a half, but I know I will return again.

While in Ocho Rios, I stayed at the Kaz Kreol Beach Lodge. It was amazing. A beautiful room with a beach view. You fall asleep, to the sound of the sea rushing up on the shore and wake up to sun rising on the horizon. They also have a bar on the beach where you can spend the day soaking up the sun while sipping on rum punch.

I had a day and a half in Ochis so I wanted to make the most it. I had a full day tour with Jacques Tours, visiting Mystic Mountain, Little Dunn’s River and the Luminous Lagoon in Falmouth.

Mystic Mountain is a rainforest adventure that welcomes you to Jamaica’s rainforest by sky lift with beautiful views of Ocho Rios. They offer a range of packages that include zip-lining and their very own bobsled. They also have a lovely restaurant and their very own infinity pool. Little Dunn’s river is connected to Dunn’s River (its in the name), but its where locals go to avoid the tourist filled main attraction. I love being in the water, so it was a great addition to our tour. We then had an hours drive to Falmouth to visit The Luminous Lagoon. It was incredible. We headed there during dusk as you can only take the swim in the lagoon when its dark. The glow that illuminates the water is caused by microorganisms that create light when disturbed.

Swimming in open water in the dark did freak me out though. I do not like the idea of not knowing or being able to see what is underneath you. One of the guys from the boat swam over to me with a jellyfish in his hand. Only God knows what else was lurking.

The following morning was spent at Kaz Kreol Beach Lodge, soaking and sipping until it was time to head to Kingston.

There is so much more of Ocho Rios to explore – when I eventually go back I will definitely see more of the sites and experience more cultural activities.
