Sofia is definitely one of Europe’s hidden gems and I would recommend anyone taking a trip around Europe to put it on their list of stops. I decided to take a trip there because it had the cheapest flights on Skyscanner. I had not idea what to expect when in Sofia, but I am definitely happy that I took the leap. I spent 3 days in Sofia as I needed a little breakaway and it was perfect. I managed to get in everything I wanted to do, apart from a hike to Vitosha Moutain – because I did not have great hiking boots. Sofia is definitely a sweet city, full of culture and character.
Lady’s Market was one of my favourite places in Sofia as I love a good haggling session with the locals. There are free walking tours or you could be adventurous like I was and lead your own walking tour. Visiting St Alexander Nevski Cathedral, Rila Mountain and Rila Monastery were really peaceful and spiritual – they really helped me find some inner peace and clarity in my thoughts. Sofia was definitely needed and came at the perfect time.
Sofia is a surprisingly sweet city.
Can I just add that Shopska salad is the BEST salad I have had in my entire life. I could eat it every single day, breakfast, lunch and dinner haha.
Still waiting for my bowl pls. You have to go back and get us one! Loving the architecture and colours!
